Peter has received official orders for a change of duty station.  We’re heading to Charleston, SC no later than May 15th.  His last day on Ike is April 10th, so I get to see him in about a month!!!!!!!!

We were hoping to stay stationed here in VA Beach because we love it here and I enjoy volunteering at the Refuge.  But, you can’t control where you get orders to and Charleston is a great location for us.  Besides Mom being down there, Peter’s job will have a regular schedule, it’s like a 9-to-5er kinda job.  He’ll be teaching at the Nuclear power school down in Goose Creek.  Regular hours, no deployments, plenty of spare time…Perfect to plan a reception around!!!!!

Waiting for these orders has been a three month process.  Initially he requested orders in January but they kept losing his paperwork or they needed additional info from him.  We thought we had a great chance at getting stationed at one of two locations in Norfolk which would have allowed us to stay put.  Now we have to decide whether to sell this place or rent it out.  I don’t know what we’ll do but we’ll be losing money regardless.

So…anyone interested in visiting the Beach can forget it.  Of course, we’ll accept any help with packing we can get.  Also, if you are interested in buying or renting a HUGE VIRGINIA BEACH 4 BED/3.5BATH TOWNHOUSE WITH AWESOME KITCHEN, FIREPLACE AND BALCONY let me know!!!

Krisann will be moving with us, all animals are GO!, I don’t know what Shawn will be doing but he is taking this all under consideration and will inform us of his decision when he is ready.  I don’t yet know where we’ll be living, or whether we will be buying or renting down there.  We can stay with Mom but 5 people plus 3 cats and 3 dogs is not a good combination.

TTFN…Lots of Love to you all, I’m going to go and flip out with excitement about Peter’s return!

This summer has started out well.  We’ve had several visitors to the house already which I love.  Unfortunately, work takes up so much of my time, leaving little left to spend at home with guests.  On top of me being at work everyday, Peter is on a crazy schedule where he works on the ship day & night for 3 days then gets one day off (to sleep mainly because they never let him sleep on the ship.)

We are preparing for him to be going out for several weeks at a time beginning in July.  I am dreading this, of course.  I try to stay busy when he is gone.  There is a lot to do now with the new place, still unpacking, decorating and cleaning.  Plus, Krisann dropped Atticus off so I now have 2 cats and the dog to look after.

Poor Simon is staying in the first floor bedroom these days because he couldn’t keep from peeing on the couch (three times!) I think he is upset over moving and hasn’t made the adjustment properly.  I bought Feliway plug-ins and the next time I will be at home all day I plan to let him out to see if things have changed.  Keep your fingers crossed for us!

I plan to update with pictures of everything from the new house to guests and other stuff we have been doing.  Work has been busy & when I get a chance I will add all kinds of news for you!  Lots of Love & Thanks to everyone for checking in with us!

We went for a little shopping spree at TJMaxx’s HomeGoods store, which I love!!!

Our decorating styles are very different but eventually, we find something we both love so that’s when I know we should buy.

We got a few pillows for the bedroom to match some things I had already.

Then we outiftted the entire bathroom & Peter installed all the new hardware last night.  It is luxurious!

The cats feel right at home here as well…

First, our master bedroom.  We plan to paint the walls orange to go with our tropical theme in there.  It isn’t showing yet, but it will be soon.  I have several parrots I bought while I was in Mississippi a few years ago as well as some really beautiful sarongs I will use in there.  The peaked ceiling adds so much personality that even with white walls & carpet it still looks active & exciting.  There is a great master bath with a jetted tub, double sinks and an ‘elongated toilet’ which I was confused about initially until I sat on it. WOW! What a difference!  We have little storage cubbies on each side of the dormer windows we are using for winter clothing & suitcases.  The room is huge.

Next, the latest picture of our living room.  It’s huge.  It makes his giant furniture look puny & insignificant.  There are so many remotes in the living room even Peter is confused.  There is a remote for the cable box, the DVD, the television, the fan-light & the fireplace (not to mention a box full of remotes I can’t figure out what their purpose is!)  We’re still working in here as well.  His brown/taupe couch works great with my pink/brown/taupe/fuschia palette (he’s cool with it.)

Our brand new washer & dryer are so fantastic, I just can’t believe how effecient they are.  There are buttons & options there that I don’t even understand.  We’ve done load after load of laundry & I have to say that the front-loaders are great.  These are Frigid-aire’s entry-level models but they hold more clothes than our old super-sized top-loading set.  Plus, they’re adorable!  & even though they are nowhere near the kitchen, they are black just like all the other appliances.

As we continue to unpack I will add more pics, I promise. The layout on the first floor is the garage (which fits a car, bicycle, motorcycle plus everything we plan to put in the attic but have been too worn out to put up there.)

The second floor is the living area which includes the kitchen, dining room and living room.  The whole floor is open with big windows and a sliding glass door in the back which leads to our deck.  I bought Peter a really great grill for our anniversary & we have used it almost every day since we moved in.  Yesterday he made clams in the oven & I cooked scallops on the grill.  They turned out great!

The third floor is where all the bedrooms are located as well as the washer & dryer.  The adjuster in me was worried about having the washer on the third floor (the line goes bad & it leaks while we’re working throughout the two floors beneath) but they have the drain pan hooked up to a drain line which expels out the side of the home, completely surpassing the water damage claim inside the house.

Our community has a nice pool, walking trails and is within a mile of the malls here at the beach.  We’re a short drive to the oceanfront & downtown Norfolk.  Please email me or Peter if you would like our address.  & Please come visit!  We have a great guest room as well as plenty of other space to house guests.

We’re approaching the summer which means Peter will be spending all kinds of time at work so as soon as we can straighten out his work schedule we’ll let you know about our Housewarming Party!

Almost wasn’t!

I worked Thursday 7am to 7pm and when I got home, 75% of our stuff in the apartment was moved in to the truck our realtor lent us.   My sweetie Pete disassembled & loaded all the big furniture ALL BY HIMSELF!!!  He’s so strong!

We packed the remainder and on Friday he went to close on the house.  Unfortunately, the mortgage company filled out all his paperwork improperly.  They added a percentage point to his “Locked In” rate, then gave him a really hard time about correcting it.  Our realtor, Blair, insisted they change all the paperwork right then & there, because it wasn’t our fault.  Those whiners continued making excuses and even tried to put us off until Monday the 2nd.  But they finally changed it & Peter got the key.

We unloaded with the help of some of Pete’s friends (Thanks to Adam, Adam & Clark) & I had borrowed a friend’s pickup (Thanks Sam & Jo!) so it was mostly complete that day.  We were completely worn out that night and fell right asleep.  The following day Peter’s brother came in & helped unload everything from my storage space.  We’ve been unpacking ever since.  The kitchen came together first then the master bedroom & guest bedroom for Mike while he was here.

With a new home comes loads of square footage to fill.  We stopped by yesterday to measure the windows and turns out the flooring is all in and the kitchen cabinets, countertops and all appliances are in!!

We remembered we need a washer & dryer so we stopped by Lowe’s to get some.  We found some black ones for a great deal then headed over to Pier 1 to get a dining set we had found there a few weeks ago.

The table is a really dark wood.  The picture here is a shorter version, we decided that since it will be sitting in the kitchen we wanted a counter height table & chairs so it would also serve as additional counter space in the kitchen. We chose four chairs, two taller versions of the dark one then two of the red leather ones.

Peter was shopping for more living room furniture while I was at work today, luckily I caught him while we were talking on the phone and listened to me because we certainly don’t need any additional sofas or living room furniture, between the two of us we already have three couches!  His suggestion this morning was, “Hey! Let’s throw away all our furniture and start new!”  I reminded him that he just bought a house and was broke.

Krissy-poodle moved a few weeks ago from her beloved apartment in Shadyside.  I drove up for the weekend to help her move (Peter was conveniently busy at work ;)  and we had a blast, as usual.

When I arrived, she was sawing logs with Pupp-o on the couch.  Aaaw!

Moving day came & other than her freakishly organized sock drawer, we still had a lot of packing to do. (Please note that the sock drawer is 10″ deep and there are several layers of neatly folded socks under this one.)

I bossed her around a lot & we were completely packed in no time.  I discovered that I am an amazing packing supervisor & great at packing others belongings.  I suck at packing my own stuff though, I find that I can barely get started!  Then she put on her moving Fez & performed like a trained monkey.

We had lots of help to move all that stuff out of her THIRD floor apartment into her first floor (Thank god!) new apartment.  Her new roommate, Carl, several coworkers, Dad, Maria & Gram and another Pete were great.  Thanks Everyone!!

We snapped the following picture of a top-secret Dude-Convention  when none of them were looking.  There were several of these throughout the day.

So we found a place we both LOVED & he is closing at the end of May (hopefully…the structure is there but the builder is complaining they may not be finished by then)

It’s a huge 3 story townhouse right up the road from my office.  4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, giant kitchen/dining/living room on the second floor.  There is a patio out back as well as a balcony from the living room.  The community has walking trails and a pool.  We are disagreeing on paint colors & patio furniture but everything else is going swimmingly.

His father & brother are heading down around that time to help us move, which I am really excited about because I have never met any of his family.  Anyone interested in helping, let us know!  & If you have any tips to help me get motivated to pack, send them along!

Also, if you want our new address, please email.  I am uncertain of the house number but as soon as we find out, I’ll let you know!  We ARE planning a house warming but we can’t schedule it yet because we don’t know the exact day we can move in & his work schedule over the summer is very hectic.

We had a nice quiet Easter.  I spent the last weekend & week before working 7-7 daily thanks to a windstorm that ran through hampton roads.  Having a 2 day weekend was a big deal for me, holiday or not.  Peter had off both Saturday & Sunday so that was another bonus.

Last week, we checked out a house in Portsmouth we had seen previously & are hoping they accept the offer we submitted.  I don’t want to get too excited in case we don’t but it’s Perfect!!!  Our offer has NOT been accepted yet though.  And we have not had an inspection.
